Mondello, April 11-13, 2025
Palermo, Wednesday, April 9th – From April 11th to 13th, 2025, the beating heart of international swing will echo in Mondello, set against the enchanting backdrop of the Gulf of Palermo. The Sicilian Swingage Festival is kicking off: a far-reaching event organized by ASD Swing Age Palermo, with the support of the Sicilian Region – Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment. Mondello will be transformed into a lively open-air dance floor under the stars.
Three days of pure energy and cultural exchange, featuring classes with internationally renowned teachers, exhilarating evenings with live music, social dances by the sea, cultural excursions, and moments of connection that will highlight the beauty of Sicily and the inclusive spirit of swing. The full program, available at www.sicilianswingagefestival.com, includes intensive workshops in Lindy Hop and Solo Jazz, spectacular performances, and jam sessions with international musicians who will bring the soul of the festival to life.
Swing, born in the Harlem clubs of the 1920s and 1930s, was a joyful and resilient response by African American communities to a context marked by segregation and social injustice. In historically rich venues like the legendary Savoy Ballroom, a free and powerful dance was born—one that broke down racial and social barriers. Even today, this dance continues to unite people of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures through the universal language of music and movement.
The choice of Palermo as the festival’s location is no coincidence: a city long known as a crossroads of peoples and traditions, a symbol of hospitality and multiculturalism, it provides the perfect setting to celebrate the values of freedom and connection that swing embodies.
This edition holds an even more special meaning: the festival will celebrate the 105th anniversary of the birth of Norma Miller, the unforgettable Queen of Swing. Six years after her memorable participation in the festival, the event will open with a heartfelt tribute to her extraordinary life. Through stories, images, and dedicated moments, the festival will honor a figure who left an indelible mark on the history of swing dance worldwide, leaving behind a legacy of strength, passion, and creativity.
